The Prime Minister of Italy, Djordje Meloni, said today that she will be the leader of her far-right party's list in the elections for the European Parliament (EP) in June.
"I have decided to run at the head of the 'Brothers of Italy' (Fratelli d'Italia) list," she said at her party's congress.
The party of Đorđe Meloni won the most votes in the 2022 parliamentary elections in Italy.
According to polls, the "Brothers of Italy" party could win about 26 percent of the votes in the EP elections, which will be held from June 6 to 9.
"We want to do in Europe exactly what we did in Italy on September 25, 2022, when the elections were held. And that is to create a majority that unites the forces of the right, to eventually return the left to the opposition, even in Europe," said Đorđa Melons.
The prime minister's party is often labeled as post-fascist.
Melonieva previously said that the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini "achieved a lot", but she still added that in her party "Brothers of Italy" "there is no place for nostalgia for fascism, nor for racism and anti-Semitism".
