These are just some of the messages exchanged by accused members of Darko Šarić's criminal group using encrypted phones with the Sky application while he was in a detention cell in the Special Court building in Belgrade, which are included in the new indictment against Šarić that was filed in October 2022. and which the court confirmed in December.
With the mentioned messages, Šarić and his associates agree on how to reward the journalist who did a good job - destroying the credibility of Nebojša Joksović, the most important prosecution witness in the fight against the Šarić clan.
This is not the only car that Šarić promised to journalists - by analyzing the new indictment, which was published on over 500 pages, as well as almost two thousand pages of court documents, BIRN learned that in at least one other case there was talk of a car being given to a journalist as a gift , and there was also talk of preparing unnamed gifts for employees in certain newsrooms.
In his detention cell, Šarić regularly received information about published texts from his associates via the Sky application and regularly commented on them. He was often satisfied with how journalists wrote, but there were also situations when he was annoyed by headlines or expressions used by journalists. Then he intervened and demanded from his associates that the journalists with whom they are in contact make changes. The Sky correspondence shows that the media did that.
The media mentioned in the Sky correspondence are Blic, Alo, Kurir, Pink, TV Happy and several other media that the prosecution failed to identify. As part of this proceeding, the prosecution did not further investigate who the journalists and editors were who collaborated with Darko Šarić's clan.
Nor was the nature of that cooperation analyzed, i.e. whether the race for exclusivity, gifts or something else were the motive for the publication of texts that obstructed the criminal proceedings against the Šarić clan.
Using the example of the attempt to discredit the witness of Nebojša Joksović's collaborator, and based on the analysis of correspondence from Skaj and other court files, BIRN illustrates how the feedback loop of leaking information between institutions, criminals and the media works.
Stevan Dojčinović, editor-in-chief of KRIK, says that "journalists, especially if they report on crime, are in contact with lawyers, even criminals, in order to find out information and it's all part of the job."
"The main rule is that the journalist and his editor decide what the story is, that is, what they will publish and when. What is not part of the job, but corruption in the media, is when criminals bribe journalists and order articles in the media," says Dojčinović.
He adds that it can be seen from the Sky messages that almost all the media that falsely accused him of working for criminals, because KRIK journalists communicated with lawyer Dejan Lazarević, the defense attorney of Darko Šarić and Veljko Belivuk, "are actually media where the criminals are really ordered texts and told them what to publish".
Leaking information: From the police, through the mafia, to the media
According to the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, since 2020, Darko Šarić planned to kill associate witness Nebojša Joksović "out of reckless revenge".
Joksović is the most important prosecution witness in the fight against the Šarić clan, because he was the only one who directly accused Šarić of managing drug dealings. When they failed to kill Joksović, Šarić issued an order to discredit Joksović in order to lose his status as a cooperating witness, the prosecution claims. The public had to be convinced that Joksović was threatening Goran Nikolašević, a witness who sided with Darko Šarić.
In the end, a bomb was placed on the hood of Goran Nikolašević's car, and the media should have labeled Joksović as the person who ordered the attack - which was not true. From the correspondence, it can be concluded that the lawyer Lazarevic was in charge of knowingly spreading false news through the media and creating media pressure. Apart from the lawyer Lazarevic, Šarić's godfather Bojan Stanojković also communicated with the media.
Although they had media appearances that were useful for the Šarić clan, defense witness Goran Nikolašević and lawyer Radomir Baćović, according to the Prosecution's evidence, were not privy to this conspiracy.
The discrediting of Joksović as an accomplice witness lasted for years, and two months before the bomb was thrown at Nikolašević's car, that campaign intensified.
It all starts with the police action "Ris", which was launched at the end of March 2020 to determine whether Darko Šarić, although in custody, managed to organize a new criminal group in order to obstruct the criminal proceedings that were being conducted against him at the time. Prosecutor Saša Ivanić, after talking with Joksović, suspected that Darko Šarić and his clan would try to discredit him as a cooperating witness.
According to the Sky correspondence that was published in the indictment, on April 30, 2020, prosecutor Ivanić asked the Service for the Fight against Organized Crime (SBPOK) to start wiretapping the Darko Šarić clan as part of the "Ris" operation and to keep them on those "measures" the next three months. However, lawyer Dejan Lazarevic found out about that order on the same day from the police officers from SBPOK, who in the meantime found themselves on a new indictment together with Darko Saric.
Then he starts with the obstruction of that investigation and that was the introduction to a new attempt to discredit the witness of Nebojsa Joksović's collaborator. First, in May, a certain Dalibor Ristić told the police that Joksović asked him to kill the witness Goran Nikolašević, who was part of Šarić's defense.
Then, Šarić's lawyer, Dejan Lazarević, at one of the hearings, in early June 2020, said that he had information that SBPOK was carrying out an action against Šarić and several other people close to him. At the main court hearing, Šarić also pointed the finger at prosecutor Saša Ivanić and accused him of trying to set up another trial for him.
In order to make the police action "Ris" completely pointless, according to the Prosecutor's Office, the official notes of the MUP, i.e. the statement of Dalibor Ristić, which was published in the National Daily on June 26, 2020, were delivered to Pink TV. According to the Prosecutor's Office, a day later, lawyer Lazarevic informed other members of the organized criminal group about this through the Sky application.

Within the text, the street and number of the house of the associate witness that is being written about are highlighted.
The information about the police operation "Ris", published on Pink and in Kurir, was true, according to the prosecution. "However, the journalist's source who provided that information to the media had the goal of obstructing the court proceedings in favor of the defendant," says a source from the Prosecutor's Office.
Also, according to sources from the Prosecutor's Office, there was a suspicion that people with whom Joksović is connected attempted illegal construction.
Šarić got the idea for newspaper articles about the illegal construction of a protected witness back in May. According to correspondence on the Sky application, he wrote about this to his lawyer Lazarević on May 5, 2020.

Fanning the fire against a protected witness
On August 5, 2020, a few days before a bomb was planted on the car of Šarić's witness Goran Nikolašević, all in order to falsely accuse the protected witness Joksović, the last media preparation was done to discredit Joksović.
According to the data of the prosecution for organized crime, an analysis of the Sky application found that Bojan Stanojković informed Darko Šarić that tomorrow he would write "sister" and "signal" because, as Stanojković writes, "these are our people who do everything we tell them." The Prosecution states that "sister" probably refers to the daily newspaper Blic or Kurir, and that "signal" is probably a nickname for the newspaper "Alo". On the internal newspaper pages, a text was published with the headline: "Prosecutor Šulović turns a blind eye to murder planning?!" The headline refers to prosecutor Zlatko Šulović from Valjevo, who rejected the criminal complaint against Nikolašević, in which he stated that Joksović was planning his murder.
On the day that text was published, on August 6, Darko Šarić and lawyer Dejan Lazarević commented on Sky Correspondence that the text in Alo was written "without error" and that the journalist who wrote the text must be honored, it is stated in court records.
In those days, Nikolašević was also a guest on the Morning program of Hepi television, in which he said that he was receiving threats and that the police told him that his life was in danger, and that he suspected that the associate witness Nebojša Joksović, whom the Prosecution is protecting, would harm him.
In addition to the procurement of plastic explosives, in the first days of August 2020, Šarić also issued the final instructions to his associates for the media campaign to be carried out after the bomb attack in Valjevo on the car of his witness Nikolašević.
In encrypted correspondence, Šarić pointed out to Lazarević that it was important to publish the news about that event in the daily newspaper "Kurir".
He also told his associates that after the explosion, it was necessary to make recordings, because those videos would look good on TV, as he wrote, which would further harm the witness and associate Joksović, that is, help to completely discredit him.
It was also agreed that the objection to the dismissal of the criminal complaint be filed on Wednesday, and then that Nikolašević's jeep explodes on Friday, in order to strengthen the impression of Goran Nikolašević's threat, but also the arrogance of Nebojša Joksović's associate witness.
Even Nikolašević, after the explosion, said in the media that the Valjevo prosecutor Šulović, by dismissing the criminal complaint, actually gave the "green light" to Joksović to plant a bomb.
Mafia coup and bombastic headlines
The prosecution accuses Darko Šarić of ordering lawyers Dejan Lazarević and Bojan Stanojković to direct Goran Nikolašević to "hook up in all directions" and to mark in the media exactly the associate witness Nebojša Joksović as the person who ordered the blowing up of the car.
A bomb placed on the hood of Goran Nikolašević's car, which was parked in front of his house, exploded in the night between August 8 and 9, 2020. It was set up by two masked attackers, who were arrested in April 2022.

Dejan Katancevic, Darko Šarić's lawyer, replied that "there is not a single proof that Darko Šarić ever used any of those phones, nor that he sent messages of such content to anyone".

Sarić's power has declined
The messages that were exchanged on the Sky platform, and which were published in the indictment, show that Sarić's influence actually decreased in the meantime, says Stevan Dojčinović, editor-in-chief of KRIK.
"Almost all pro-government media have been sympathetic to Darko Šarić ever since he surrendered in 2014, with the fact that it used to be at the highest level. The defense of Šarić was the editorial policy of the leading media - something like the defense of Predrag Koluvija and his company today Jovanjica. Back then, Šarić didn't have to chase journalists, subsidize them and push texts through them, but the media were competing to attack those who arrested him first - first of all, policemen and prosecutors," says Dojčinović, recalling the media chase that took place led against the former head of the criminal police, Rodoljub Milović, after Šarić called him Papaja in the courtroom.
Dojčinović says that it was clear then that it was not the work of bribed journalists, but rather the editorial policy of numerous media outlets. "Such manhunts are conducted only when someone from the top of the government orders the media to start them. Sky messages, from the latest indictment, show that Šarić has had limited access to the media in recent years, while some others are now defending themselves from all guns," says Dojčinović.
According to the editor of KRIK, the reason why Šarić's media influence has declined may lie in the fact that he partially lost support in the state.
"Sarić was defended the most - both by the state and the media - sometime during the period when Aleksandar Đorđević was the head of the director of the Security Information Agency (BIA). At that time, the BIA participated in several shameful episodes: they submitted a photo to the media, which is connected to criminals prosecutor Saša Ivanić - who hid his appearance for security reasons, and the BIA also participated in fabricating the non-existent Jelova Gora affair with which they also attacked the prosecutor Saša Ivanić".
The Sky correspondence in the new indictment against Šarić shows that apart from the police, he also has good connections in the BIA, however, not with everyone. Namely, one of the collaborators informed Šarić in mid-August, among other things: (message from SKY) ...we are working for BIA, Gašić's (then director of the Agency, current Minister of the Interior, prim. author.) electricity, on the order of Nenadić (head Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, ed.)...
Speaking about the attack on him and KRIK when the tabloids "discovered" that the journalists of that newsroom were communicating with the lawyer Dejan Lazarević, Dojčinović says that the pro-government media, as well as MPs from the SNS, misused the statement of the father of the missing young man. 2020 during criminal confrontations.
"During an interview, the father said that Belivuk called him by phone at the end of last year and asked why he didn't contact the media regarding his son's disappearance. After he replied that the local tabloids were ignoring him, Belivuk suggested that he contact us," he says. Dojčinović.

By looking at the text and its title "Šarić organized a new criminal group from prison? The police launched a special operation RIS!", not only cannot it be concluded that this text is in favor of Darko Šarić and the other accused, but quite the opposite. From the title and from the text itself, as well as all other texts published about the mentioned procedure, it is clear that it is talking about the suspicion of the investigators that Darko Šarić committed criminal acts for which he was not suspected until then, and it was on these charges that Šarić was arrested in April 2022 , which supports the fact that Kurir published verified and accurate statements.
It is unequivocally clear from everything that Dejan Lazarević or the accused Bojan Stanojković had no influence on the editorial policy of the Kurir, which is also confirmed by the intercepted SKY communication from the indictment into which the Kurir had access. It is clear from the mentioned messages that Kurir did not allow it to be misused, but caused the dissatisfaction of the accused, as evidenced by the specific message: "And that blonde from Kurir is screwing us over that title" (quote from the indictment).

The Saric case
Darko Šarić surrendered to the Serbian authorities in 2014, after he was accused of smuggling 5,7 tons of cocaine from South America to Western Europe during 2008 and 2009 while he was on the run. After a long trial, Šarić was sentenced to 2022 years in prison in October 14 for that crime.
In addition, in July 2020, Šarić was sentenced to nine years in prison for money laundering. The court accused him of "laundering" at least 20 million euros obtained by smuggling cocaine with his group. According to the decision of the Appellate Court in Belgrade, a new trial was ordered, which is ongoing.
At the end of 2021, the Judicial Council canceled Darko Šarić's detention and placed him under house arrest with electronic monitoring. He was arrested again in mid-April 2022. The main evidence of the new indictment is mainly correspondence via the Sky application for mobile phones. However, Šarić, as well as the other defendants, deny that they ever had the Sky application and that they communicated through it. The trial should begin by the end of February.
Nebojša Joksović is a key witness against Šarić. Although he was under police protection all the time, Joksović was exposed to constant attacks for almost a decade. His uncle's brother was killed, his printing shop was shot with oil several times, his cafe and house were set on fire, and the police did not resolve any of the attacks on the witness. In the meantime, the prosecutor did not have an easy time with such a witness either - in the middle of the process, certain members of Joksović's family were involved in illegal construction, which was speculated to be behind him, he kept cars of dubious origin in the garage, all of which could jeopardize his status .
At the beginning of March 2022, exactly one month before the second arrest of Šarić, the trial of Nebojša Joksović began before the High Court in Belgrade, who was accused of, together with the director of a printing company, on two occasions extracting, or buying, assets from the company at a lower price than the estimated price. to avoid that property being lost in bankruptcy.
