Prime Minister and HDZ President Andrej Plenković assessed on Monday that the actions of the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović and the SDP were an attempt at a mini-coup and abuse of institutions, pointing out that the Constitutional Court was clear in its conclusion - that the Constitution was violated.
"The decision was expected. I think the president of the Constitutional Court was clear. Everything we said was clear that not only did the constitutional framework of the role of the president go out, but not only good customs were directly violated, but the Constitution itself, that's what they repeated. I don't see what else they could have said," Plenković said ahead of the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the founding of the HDZ of Sisak-Moslavina County, reports HINA.
On Monday, the Constitutional Court concluded that President Milanović, who announced his candidacy on the SDP's list last Friday, cannot be a candidate in the parliamentary elections while he is in office as the President of the Republic nor nominated as a candidate for Prime Minister.
On Monday, Milanović assessed the decision of the Constitutional Court as a constitutional coup, announcing that he will eventually become prime minister, while calling on citizens to unite against the HDZ.

Asked how he will lead a campaign against a candidate for prime minister who will not participate in the campaign, but who has clearly said that he will not give it up, Plenković said that everything that has been happening with the SDP in recent days and what Milanović has done must be called real in words.
"This is an attempt at a mini-coup, abuse of institutions, complete disavowal of Peđa Grbin, who I no longer see as the president of the SDP," Plenković said.
