The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations, Zlatko Lagumdžija, said today that the session of the UN General Assembly, where the draft UN Resolution on the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide will be discussed, will certainly not be held before May 6.

Although it was previously speculated that the session will be held on May 2, the date of its holding will not be known before April 30, it was confirmed for the Sarajevo portal Klix (Klix.ba).

It is added that the BiH team, headed by Ambassador Lagumdžija, will send a proposal for a resolution today so that, if the member countries have any additions to the text of the resolution, they will have additional time for consultations.

"We want to give more time for everyone to become familiar with the real facts, as well as for everyone, including those who may be against it now, to give their possible suggestions," Lagumdžija told the Klix portal.

The official date of the session of the General Assembly, where the resolution will be discussed, has not yet been announced, and in the previous weeks it was said in the media that it would be on April 27, and then on May 2.

The resolution has seven conclusions, according to which the General Assembly would declare July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica, which will be celebrated every year.

The conclusions condemn any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica and call on member states to "preserve established facts, including the educational system, with the aim of preventing revisionism and the occurrence of genocide in the future."

"We condemn without reserve actions that glorify those convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, including those responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica," the conclusions state.

Furthermore, the importance of completing the process of finding and identifying the remaining victims of the genocide in Srebrenica is highlighted.

All member states are urged to fully comply with their obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, as applicable in international law on the prevention and punishment of genocide.

The conclusions request the Secretary General to establish an information program entitled "Genocide in Srebrenica and the UN", starting with activities for the 30th anniversary in 2025.

In the conclusions, all member states, organizations of the UN system, other international and regional organizations and civil society, including NGOs, are invited to mark the International Day, including special activities in memory of the victims of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica.
