Iran will suffer the consequences if it further worsens the situation in the Middle East, the Israeli army warned today, as the country is on alert for threats of retaliation from Tehran, an ally of the Palestinian movement Hamas.
"We have stepped up preparations to protect Israel from Iranian aggression. We are also ready to respond," Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari added.
This was announced after Iran seized a ship "connected" to Israel in the Gulf earlier today.
On April 7, Tehran vowed to retaliate against an airstrike on the consular annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, where seven members of the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, were killed on April 1. Among the victims were two senior officers.
Iranian authorities blame Israel for the attack.

The Hamas Health Ministry announced today a new toll of 33.686 people killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement on October 7.
In 24 hours, another 52 deaths were recorded, according to the Ministry's announcement.
It is added that 76.309 were injured in more than six months of war.
