American pop star Taylor Swift's new album "The Tortured Poets Department" became the first album to reach one billion streams in a week, Spotify announced.
The previous record also belonged to Swift, namely her last release "Midnights", released in October 2022. Spotify did not release the numbers at the time, but it is estimated that "Midnights" had around 700 million.
It's no surprise that "Tortured Poets" set a new record, having 300 million streams in its first day of release alone. Also, the single "Fortnight" from that album, which features Post Malone, became the most streamed song in one day in the history of the Spotify platform on the day of its release.
