The Citizens' Movement (GP) URA will vote for the election of Maja Jovanović as the Supreme State Prosecutor (VDT), announced the political director of that party, Ana Novaković Đurović.
In an interview with the MINA agency, she said that in GP URA, they believe that Jovanović contributed to the beginning of fundamental changes in the prosecutor's office during her two mandates in the position of Acting VDT.
Novaković Đurović stated that on Jovanović's proposal, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović was also appointed, after which the Special State Prosecutor's Office delivered concrete results.
"In addition to the other results of her work during her acting mandate, which also resulted in important indictments and a serious attitude towards her position and the representation of that position in society, we absolutely believe that she deserves our support at this moment," said Novaković Đurović.
When asked about the position of the URA GP regarding Milorad Marković, who is mentioned as a candidate for VDT, she said that Marković is a professional and that they have no doubts or negative comments regarding his qualifications.
As she said, URA will make a timely statement about Marković's candidacy, when it is on the agenda.
Novaković Đurović pointed out that Marković also contributed to the drafting of the anti-mafia law, which was being prepared by the 43rd Government and, according to her, in that way he showed support for important processes that should be opened in the country.
"Unfortunately, that law was not adopted and we still believe that its initial adoption could have already produced certain results," she said.
Novaković Đurović said that GP URA has not had negotiations with anyone from the authorities regarding appointments in the judiciary.
As she stated, dialogue on these issues is inevitable and the agreement on appointments in the judiciary is one of the most important obligations of the parliament to begin with, and the URA will try to be very constructive in that process, regardless of the fact that they are the opposition.
"That dialogue should be essential, appointments should be of high quality, no unhealthy compromises should be made just because of the speed of the process", stressed Novaković Đurović.
She said that the politicians are on a serious task to solve the current situation in the judiciary and then to start the reforms that are important for the recovery of the whole society.
"All the efforts of the 43rd Government, which have been detected by international partners, I mean first of all the results in the fight against corruption and organized crime, cannot yet have a full effect, until reforms in the judiciary are implemented and until those activities they don't get an adequate epilogue in the courts," Novaković Đurović pointed out.
She said she expects the parliamentary majority to initiate a dialogue on judicial appointments.
Novaković Đurović believes that there are quality solutions in the proposals of candidates for members of the Judicial Council and that there is room for agreement.
She announced that the URA will support the election of Irene Radović as governor of the Central Bank.
"We believe that her experience, biography, holding the positions she held until now absolutely deserve our support," added Novaković Đurović.
Speaking about the Law on Temporary Child Support, she said that the amendments to that law proposed by the URA go in the direction of unblocking the Alimony Fund.
Novaković Đurović reminded that at the previous session of the Assembly, the URA requested to expand the agenda by proposing changes to that law, but that proposal was not adopted.
"I think it's purely political calculations, because it's really an extremely important issue of public interest," Novaković Đurović said.
As she said, it is about children who need payments from the Alimony Fund, due to the carelessness of their parents who did not pay alimony regularly, and in most cases single mothers are also affected.
Novaković Đurović stated that, after the adoption of that law, problems arose in the application and interpretation of some norms, which is why the Alimony Fund has been blocked since February.
She said that the changes to that law were prepared by the Women's Club of the previous convocation of the Assembly, which initially advocated its adoption.
"In a way, we took over the proposal of those solutions, only in the desire that it be on the agenda as soon as possible, so that the Alimony Fund would be in operation as soon as possible. However, it did not happen," Novaković Đurović said.
She stated that for the session on Monday, she will again ask for an expansion of the agenda, and an agreement was reached that this proposal will go before the opposition.
"I expect that this time the political subjects, especially those who make up the parliamentary majority, will refrain from any exclusively political calculations in this part, include the proposal of this law in the agenda, that we will vote on the changes and unblock the Alimony Fund", said Novaković Đurović.
Speaking about the amendments to the Pension and Disability Insurance Act, Novaković Đurović reminded that at the previous session, the URA requested the expansion of the agenda with that act, but, according to her, this was not supported because the deputies who were against it were motivated by political, not public interest.
"By including it in the agenda, we were able to open the debate on that law and perhaps already adopt the amendments," Novaković Đurović added.
As she said, the URA welcomes the agreement between the partners in the Social Council, although the legal solution is different and the age limit for men and women is 65 years and 15 years of service.
"The trade unions accepted such a solution, although they were primarily in favor of 64 as the age limit, but we still believe that our proposal was better and that the determination of the old-age pension, especially for women, should be unnecessarily increased to 65", emphasized Novaković Đurović.
Speaking about the reform of the electoral legislation, she said that it is one of the tasks in the process of European integration and something that is necessary for Montenegrin society.
"It will be a test for the new convocation of the parliament, it will be clearly seen whether the process of European integration is for someone only a declarative or an essential commitment", said Novaković Đurović and stated that the GP URA, as in 2018, will participate in the changes electoral legislation.
In addition to the legislation in that area, as she stated, it is equally important to complete the construction of professional and independent institutions.
"So, in addition to the law, we must build institutions in parallel and with all that, of course, reforms in the judiciary, because without their professional work, even ideal laws will not be enough for the next elections to be organized in accordance with all the standards expected of us by our international partners," she added. is Novaković Đurović.
As she said, the fact is that since 2020, Montenegro has a better environment for elections, but there are a number of legal gaps.
Novaković Đurović said that this generation of politicians has a great responsibility and that they should not miss opportunities for a decisive step towards the European Union (EU).
"When it comes to the process of European integration, some serious reforms have already been initiated. First of all, I am thinking of the area of the fight against corruption and organized crime, to which the 43rd Government made an exceptional contribution," said Novaković Đurović.
She pointed out that she believes that there are enough professionals in the institutions who can perform important and difficult tasks in the right way and in accordance with the law.
"It is the duty of politicians to create a legal and institutional environment for that. The opportunity is there, as far as the URA is concerned, we have directed all our activities so far in the direction of Montenegro being the next member of the EU and we will continue to do so", concluded Novaković Đurović.
