The Citizens' Initiative (GI) Save Sinjajevina announced today that the Ministry of Defense informed them that during the "Immediate Response 23" exercise, which will take place in May, no activities are planned on Sinjajevina.
"According to this information, which was delivered to us after our organization officially approached the Ministry of Defense, we expect that this promise will be fulfilled in its entirety and that there will be no military operations on Sinjajevina in the period from May 22 to June 2, 2023 However, having learned from the negative experience from the beginning of this year, when it was said that there would be no military activities in Sinjajevina, and then 250 NATO soldiers came despite that, from May 22 to June 2, the guards of Sinjajevina will be in Margita and other parts of our mountains," states the announcement of GI Save Sinjajevina.
They added that they invite all citizens and nature lovers to walk and hike along Sinjajevina from Žabljak to Mojkovac, from Kolašin to Šavnik, from May 20.
"Sinjajevina will already be full of people and livestock from May 20, the katuns will start functioning, and in this way we will be able to oppose any potential military activities in the best way. We expect the Government of Montenegro to urgently cancel the decision on the military training ground in Sinjajevina, and let's finally put an end to the agony that the local community of the largest Montenegrin mountain goes through every time the army mentions the organization of exercises. We consider it irresponsible that the public constantly disavows the story that "Sinjajevina is defended", and the situation on the ground is such that it is still a military training ground and as such a vulnerable and endangered woman," reads the GI Save Sinjajevina statement.
According to them, attempts to present some military activities as safe for the environment are just attempts to turn Sinjajevina into a military training ground, the final training ground of terror.
"It was not for nothing that our people said "no small, no big", so it is completely clear that the initial infantry and rescue exercises will eventually turn into artillery fire, the use of large-caliber live ammunition, the movement of armored vehicles, and other activities, which the officials of the Ministry of Defense and some others do not hide despite the statements of Prime Minister Dritan Abazović. The Government of Montenegro must finally understand that in addition to its obligations to the NATO alliance, it also has obligations to the citizens of Montenegro, but also to the environment and to the regulations of the European Union, international acts and local regulations that call for protection Sinjajevina. The protection of the ecological values of Sinjajevina excludes the possibility of any presence of military activities in this gem of nature and agriculture," stated GI Save Sinjajevina.
They said that they have not given up the fight for Sinjajevina and will not.
"Unity and harmony are the main "weapons" in the defense of Sinjajevina and we will once again stand in solidarity with all plans that are contrary to the protection of our mountain. With the announcement of military activities, our attention is at its maximum, and therefore it seems that we are waiting for an earlier rise to the katuns of this That's why we invite our herdsmen to go up to the katuns as soon as possible, because with our presence we will make it clear whose mountain is ours," concludes the announcement of GI Save Sinjajevina.
