The Citizens' Initiative (GI) Let's Save Sinjajevina calls on the Government of Montenegro to cancel the decision to establish a military training ground on Sinjajevina as soon as possible and finally declare our mountain a regional nature park, thereby correcting the mistakes of the previous executive authorities.
As announced by GI Save Sinjajevina, the news that the spatial plan of Montenegro mentions and plans Sinjajevina as a military training ground is worrisome, especially bearing in mind that the mentioned planning document is a radio department managed by a party that profiles itself as ecological.
"Instead of the Green Party protecting the environment, until now we have only had demagoguery and empty promises when it comes to Sinjajevina, and therefore we ask the new Government and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to finally act on the demands and wishes of the locals and develop Sinjajevina as an agricultural and tourist destination good, the territory of life that will feed Montenegro, not the territory of death and destruction," the initiative's announcement reads.

We expect that the new government, together with the competent ministries, will finally hear the voice of the people, because the residents of Sinjajevina have already said loud and clear countless times that they do not want a military training ground.
"In addition to the people, we believe that the Government will also hear the voice of the scientific community, that of Montenegro, which, through a study by the Agency for Nature and Environmental Protection, said that Sinjajevina should be a regional nature park, and their recommendation was supported by scientists from five European universities at the recent at the conference held in Kolašin. We believe that the obligations undertaken towards any organizations or associations are less important than the obligations towards our own citizens. The government of this country was elected by the citizens, and therefore they should be the focus, and not anyone else," it was announced.
Before those obligations, Montenegro assumed obligations from the Berne and Aarhus Conventions, which, as GI Save Sinjajevina said, protect the right of citizens to a healthy environment, as well as the environment itself, and their violation can have legal consequences for our country.
"Also, we must not forget the Constitution of Montenegro, according to which our country is ecological and according to which the citizen is the bearer of sovereignty, and therefore that citizen should be asked, consulted and obeyed. In the same way, the European Union drew attention in several reports and called for solving the problem of the training ground in Sinjajevina," the announcement states.
We consider scandalous and unacceptable, they said, the behavior of the military leadership that still insists on the military training ground on Sinjajevina.
"The previous government in the most ignorant way ignored the request supported by over 70 NGOs from Montenegro that the representative of the Citizens' Initiative Save Sinjajevina be included in the working group that was supposed to "propose the next steps for the implementation of the Government's Conclusions of September 12.09.2019, 74.590.381, which the Government XNUMX m² of the Sinjajevina mountain has been transferred to the Ministry of Defense for the purposes of forming a training and shooting range of the Army, or propose a new adequate solution for a training and shooting range on the territory of Montenegro, in accordance with the criteria," the announcement reads.
As far as we know, that working group has completed its work, but despite all logic, as stated in the announcement, it was once again a military person who took the lead, and not the Ministry of Ecology, Agriculture or Tourism.
"The work of that working group was like throwing dust in the eyes, and the outcome was obviously known in advance," it is stated.
Sinjajevina was, is and will be the property of its herdsmen, and, it is added, therefore any military activities on it are not welcome, and in case of any military activities, our response will not fail.
"This time even more harshly, because we believe that we have waited a lot and listened to promises, it is time for action, and the only concrete thing we will accept is the cancellation of the decision on the military training ground and the declaration of Sinjajevina as a regional nature park", according to GI, let's save Sinjajevina.
In order to finally solve the problem of the training ground on Sinjajevina, our organization today sent an invitation, they said, to the Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the President of the Assembly Andrija Mandić, the President of the State Jakov Milatović, as well as the Ministers of Defense Dragan Krapović, Ecology Vladimir Martinović, Spatial Planning Minister Janko Odović. and agriculture to Vladimir Joković.
