A terrible fall marked the fourth stage of the Race around the Basque Country, and it sounds somewhat unreal that as many as three great cycling champions - Jonas Vingegord, Primož Roglič and Remko Evenepul - took part in it.
The worst, because the winner of the last two Tour de France passed and was brought into an ambulance by medics on a stretcher, while Roglič and Evenepool were also injured, but got up quickly after the fall.
The organizers of the Race around the Basque Country decided to stop today's stage from Ećari-Aranac to Legutio after this incident, and as "Marka" writes, one of the reasons was that emergency help would arrive without hindrance.
In a fall in which about a dozen cyclists participated, Vingerord ended up in a concrete channel located next to an unprotected bend, after which he lay motionless for about twenty minutes.
Today, the Dane is considered the best cyclist in the world, Roglič is the current winner of the Giro d'Italia and three-time champion of the Vuelta a España, while Evenepool celebrated at the Vuelta two years ago.
Marka adds that their performances at the next big races - Giro and Tour, which are held in May and June - are now in question.
