Ukrainian authorities said Russia carried out kamikaze attacks with drones and heavy artillery on regions in the center and east of the country in the early hours of Thursday, Radio Free Europe's Ukrainian service reported.
Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems intercepted 26 of 28 Shahed-type drones over Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odesa and Zaporizhia, the country's air force said in a statement.
Local authorities in Zaporizhia announced that houses were hit and that at least two people were wounded. The acting mayor, Anatoly Kurtev, said that five houses were partially destroyed, while 40 were damaged.
The governor of the central Dnipropetrovsk region, Sergei Lisak, said Nikopol was targeted by heavy artillery and drones. Two people were injured by shrapnel, while four houses and a power line were damaged, he added.
In Odesa, the regional governor, Oleh Kiper, said that Russia first launched drones and then targeted the area with missiles.
In Kharkiv, offices, a shop and a restaurant were damaged, but there were no victims, said the regional governor, Oleh Sinjehubov.
Ukrainian authorities said Russia may have used a new type of guided bomb in airstrikes on Kharkiv on Wednesday, in an attack Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described as "Russian terror".
Volodymyr Timoshko, head of Kharkiv regional police, said Moscow may have used a new type of guided bomb – the UMPB D-30.
"It seems that the Russians have decided to test their modified bombs on the residents of the houses," Sinjehubov said.
