Thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants in central and western Ukraine were hit by Russian drone and missile attacks, the operator of the electricity network Ukrenergo announced on Friday, after a new attack on the already damaged power infrastructure.

Ukrainian forces destroyed 58 attack drones launched by Russia overnight, as well as 26 cruise missiles, the head of the Ukrainian Air Force said on Friday.

He added that Russia "carried out a powerful missile-air strike against Ukraine's fuel and energy sector, using various types of missiles and attack drones."

Ukrenergo stated on Telegram that thermal power plants and hydropower plants in the central and western regions were damaged.

Regional officials said Russian forces attacked infrastructure in the Kamianske district near the city of Dnipro. At least one person was wounded, officials added.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko also said that energy facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Cherkasy regions were attacked this morning.

"Electricity production facilities were targeted by drones and missiles," Gelushchenko said on Facebook.

Ukrainian television reported that explosions were heard in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytskyi regions and the city of Dnipro, as Russian cruise missiles were spotted in Ukrainian airspace.

The largest private electricity company DTEK announced that three of its thermal power plants were attacked.

"The equipment was badly damaged. After the attack was over, energy engineers immediately started repairing the damage," DTEK announced on Telegram.

The Ukrainian electricity distributor Jasno stated this week that DTEK lost about 50 percent of its capacity as its facilities were hit by Russian missile and drone attacks.
