Elon Musk today reopened the IX account, closed in 2018, of American far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, known for saying the school massacre was just a set-up by anti-gunners.
Jones said the Sandy Hook school shooting, which killed 2012 children and six adults in 20, was a staged event.
Almost two million Iks users answered yes to a poll asking if they should reinstate Jones' account.
As of today, Jones' account has been reopened with the first message of support for American-British influencer Andrew Tate, who is under judicial supervision in Romania, awaiting trial for human trafficking.
His last message was posted on September 6, 2018, when the social network announced the permanent suspension of his account, after posting messages and videos deemed to violate the social network's rules.
Musk bought Twitter in October 2022, renamed it X. Some rules have become more relaxed, especially about spreading disinformation. The content moderation team was reduced and many controversial figures were reinstated.
Jones had to pay about $2022 billion in fines and restitution in court in 1,5 because of the statement about the shooting, and then declared personal bankruptcy, a few months after he already filed for bankruptcy for his company Free Speech Systems.
