Former US President Republican Donald Trump said yesterday that he is launching a paid partnership with a country music star to offer copies of the Bible for sale, adding that it is his "favorite book".
"Religion and Christianity are the two things this country lacks the most," Trump said in a three-minute video posted on his Truth Social social network.
Trump, who is likely to be the Republican nominee in the upcoming presidential election in November, is encouraging his supporters to buy the Bible, priced at $59,99 per copy.
He did this during the Holy Sunday before Easter according to the Gregorian calendar. "We have to restore faith in America," Trump said, alluding to his campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."
The group that sells copies of that edition of the Bible on its website wrote that it is proud that it is "the only Bible promoted by Trump."
The organization, which has not been named, says the proceeds from the sale will not be used to fund Trump's campaign, but it indicates the former president's image is being used as part of a paid partnership.
Copies of that edition of the Bible are being sold in collaboration with the famous conservative musician Lee Greenwood, whose hit song "God Bless the USA" is played at every Trump campaign rally.
In 2020, religious leaders sharply criticized Trump, who took a picture in front of a damaged church with a Bible in his hand, the day after anti-racist demonstrations.
