The presidents of France and Brazil, Emmanuel Macron and Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, announced that they are launching a program aimed at collecting one billion euros in green investments for the Brazilian and Guyanese parts of the Amazon, the French presidency announced.
The announcement, made at the very beginning of Macron's state visit to Brazil, is part of an international road map that the two heads of state intend to promote ahead of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP30).
The gathering will be held in 2025 in Belem, in the northern part of Brazil.
The Amazon rainforest occupies about 5,5 million square kilometers. It is located on the territory of nine countries: Brazil (60 percent of the rainforest), Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.
