The NGO "Medija team" from Nikšić organized information sessions with young people from Roma settlements in Nikšić about cases of discrimination faced by young people from the RE population, recognition of all forms of discrimination to which they are exposed on a daily basis and mechanisms of institutional support in order to protect their civil rights.

"The sessions were aimed at increasing awareness among young people about the importance of school education through mentoring support for young Roma and Egyptians in learning foreign languages. The slogan 'Stop discrimination against the youth of the RE community' sent a message to the authorities that Roma and Egyptians are full members of this community with the desire to speed up their inclusion in modern society", said Snežana Danilović, project coordinator of the NGO "Medija Team".

The sessions were held as part of the project "For the full inclusion of the RE population in our society". The goal of the project, according to Danilović, is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic and legal position of Roma and Egyptians in Nikšić, by improving an inclusive and open society based on the promotion of equality, fighting and eliminating all forms of discrimination, antigypsyism and poverty, preventing stigmatization and discrimination of the RE population through promoting the national and ethnic identity of members of the Roma and Egyptian population in Nikšić.

In the continuation of the project, educational workshops with elementary school students on social and cultural inclusion are planned.

"With these workshops, our goal is to reduce the ethnic distance between the youth of the RE population and the youth of the non-Roma population in Nikšić. We will also organize forums for parents of students from the majority population with the aim of reducing negative social attitudes (ethnic distance) towards Roma and Egyptian children and adults," Danilović pointed out.

Research on social and cultural inclusion of the RE population is also planned, as well as a round table on the topic "Ethnic distance and interculturalism". The Informant on social rights and cultural distinctiveness of the youth of the RE community will also be promoted.

The project "For the full inclusion of the RE population in our society" is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
