The social networks Facebook and Instagram, as well as Messenger and Trades applications, are back up and running today after being unavailable to users due to technical problems, the parent company Meta announced.

The spokesperson of the American company, Andy Stone, wrote on the X social network (formerly Twitter) that "the problem was solved in the shortest possible time" and apologized to the users for the inconvenience.

Today, it was not possible to access social networking sites via the Internet. On Facebook, users were logged out and could not log in, while Instagram could not be accessed at all.

Online health monitoring website Downdetector showed major outages for Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. The problems are worldwide, indicating that the outage could be global.

A senior official at the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency told reporters today that the agency "is not aware of any specific election ties or any specific malicious cyber activity related to the outage."

The outage comes just before Thursday's deadline for big tech companies to comply with the European Union's new Digital Markets Act.

In order to comply, the company Meta is working on introducing changes that allow users to better manage the factors on the basis of which they are exposed to Internet advertisements.

Radio Free Europe (RSE) previously reported that Facebook and Instagram are back up and running after what the world media reported was a possibly major server outage at Meta's American parent company, and that users can reload those apps or websites as usual.

"We are aware that people are having problems accessing our services. We are working on it," Meta spokesman Andy Stone said earlier in a post on the X social network.

On Facebook, users were logged out and unable to connect, while Instagram did not work at all, while Vocap (WhatsApp) worked.

Internet monitoring company Netblocks, based in London, previously announced on the X platform that four of Meta's platforms - Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Trades "are experiencing outages related to logging in multiple countries".

RSE also reported earlier that many Facebook and Instagram users reported a problem logging into these social networks today, and that many users were logged out of their accounts and could not log in again.

On the Downdetector page, which deals with the analysis of interruptions in services, one could see a large number of reports from users who had problems logging in.
