The winners of the Montenegrin Cup for volleyball players will be decided tonight in Bijelo Polje. The ladies will be the first to take the field - in the final, Herceg Novi and Luka Bar will meet at 17 p.m., while the clash for the men's cup, in which Jedinstvo and Budva will compete, is scheduled for 20 p.m.
Budva are defending the trophy and want to show that they are the best, but Jedinstvo also has its trump card.
- It is clear to everyone that Budva is the favorite, but when we talk about finals and cup competitions, we all grab our chance somewhere through those competitions. I wouldn't talk about favourites, I simply think that it will be a match where, perhaps, certain moments, both in terms of motivation and in terms of the opponent's desire and fight, will decide the winner - said the coach of Jedinstva Darko Prebiracevic.
The rival is ready for a big fight.
- It will be difficult in Bijelo Polje, where we experienced our only defeat this season. We were preparing to give our best in order to defend the cup - said the coach of Budva Miljan Boskovic.
The Budva Riviera is the most successful team in the Cup with seven trophies, Budva won five, Budućnost has three, and Bjelopolje Jedinstvo two titles.
In the women's competition, Herceg Novi wants to be the best for the second time in a row and accepts the role of favorite. He also wants to continue his winning streak without losing a set.
- That streak without losing a set, as good and big as it is in some ways, also creates some problems for us. It's getting harder and harder to deal with it, because it's quite logical that we lose a set somewhere and then it's just a question of the team's reaction when that happens. I think that psychological preparation and a good start to the game will mean a lot. We accept the role of favorites, but we do not want to underestimate our rivals - said the coach of Herceg Novi Milorad Krunic.
Baranka does not want to surrender.
- It is certain that the Herceg Novi team, and the results show that for the last two years, is undisputed in our league and is certainly a level above our competition. Our opponent looks very good physically, they are technically and tactically well managed, but we will try to create problems, to see what their reaction will be. I hope that we will get a chance and if it happens we will take advantage of it - said coach Luke Bar Vladimir Milacic.
Luka Bar won the Cup trophy in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017, Galeb celebrated in 2010, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, and Herceg Novi last year. Only Rudar, who won in 2008 and 2009, can still boast of a cup in an independent state.
