Prime Minister Dritan Abazović became an honorary citizen of New Orleans, and on that occasion he was also presented with the Key to the city, the Prime Minister's office announced.
He was welcomed in New Orleans by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and his wife.
"During the working lunch of the consular network with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, which was attended by the honorary consuls of the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan, Iceland, Mexico, Panama, Albania, Finland, Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Uruguay, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Ireland, Spain, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil and Latvia, on behalf of the mayor of New Orleans, Latoja Cantrell, and in honor of the warm welcome, Prime Minister Abazović was awarded the recognition of an honorary citizen of the largest city in the US federal state of Louisiana.
Abazović was awarded the honorary ambassadorship of Louisiana for his commitment to strengthening the ties between Montenegro and Louisiana.
During his address at the working lunch of the consular network, Abazović expressed his gratitude for the welcome and the awards given by the representatives of the authorities, noting that it is not the size of the country that matters, but the values it supports and promotes.
"Montenegro is a friendly country that wants to have good relations with all the countries of the world. We are inclusive people who do not have a discriminatory approach, a country that is safe and secure for everyone," said Abazović, speaking of Montenegro.
He stated that today, Montenegro is my country, it has the best standard of living and parameters in the region, as well as the greatest prospects of becoming the next member of the EU.
Speaking about the importance of tourism in Montenegro and the Government's efforts to introduce the United States of America to the country's tourism potential and create a perspective for better connectivity, Abazović expressed his belief that American tourists visiting Montenegro would take away good impressions.
"Montenegro is the only country in the world that has been declared by the constitution as an ecological country. We want to build Montenegro and present it as a green destination," concluded Abazović.
