The relations between Montenegro and Greece are characterized by a strong alliance within NATO, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, stating that he is convinced that the overall relations between the two countries will be further strengthened when Montenegro becomes a member of the European Union (EU).
Milatović, as announced by his cabinet, attended a formal reception on the occasion of Greece's Independence Day tonight.
In his address to those present, he recalled the rich historical pages of the Montenegrin-Greek friendship, which, he said, were marked by the character and work of Vas Brajović, one of the most significant historical figures that unites the two countries.
"He emphasized that today the relations between Montenegro and Greece are characterized by a strong alliance within NATO, expressing his belief that the overall relations between the two countries will be further strengthened when Montenegro also becomes a member of the EU in 2028," the announcement states.
Milatović thanked Greece for supporting Montenegro's European path and for its important contribution to the stability of the region, both through political support and through participation in platforms aimed at accelerating the integration process.
He said that during his mandate, he will make an extra effort to contribute to the strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation, as well as to encourage Greek investors to invest in Montenegro.
"Milatović's participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, which he will officially open on April 10, together with his Greek and Slovenian colleagues, will contribute significantly to this," the statement said.
It is reported that, earlier today, Milatović, together with the Greek ambassador to Montenegro, Panayotis Partsos, laid a wreath at the monument to Brajović, a famous Greek national hero of Montenegrin origin.
