French President Emmanuel Macron said that he will do everything to ensure that European football clubs, including Real Madrid, enable players to be available for the Olympic Games (OI) in Paris this summer, Atletik reported today.
France wants to put on a "big show" when it hosts the football tournament at the Olympics and hopes to include a number of high-profile players, including Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Chouameni and Edouard Kamavinga.
However, it will require certain efforts, because the competition starts on July 24 and lasts until August 9, and during that period the pre-season programs of many teams will already be underway.
The European Championship in Germany ends just ten days before the OI, on July 14, which raises concerns about the fatigue of the players, as well as the extraordinary volume of preparatory and conditioning work they have outside the "football" season, i.e. during the summer.
Clubs cannot be forced to release players for the OI, which represents the possibility of difficult negotiations, the portal assessed.
"We will do everything," Macron told RMC Sport, adding that he has confidence in French and European clubs.
According to him, the problem may also arise because the European Football Championship will be held before the Olympic Games.
"I believe that the clubs have to play their part if we want to have a great show at the Olympics," added the French president.
